Luna Bellity:
Luna Bellity is a French-Israeli multidisciplinary artist engaged in various media such as installation, video and sound.
Bellity’s artistic practice involves working with tapes and with chaotic, unpredictable systems to create compositions. Her work process, developed over the years, is based on remaining patiently present, listening and staring until she experiences an emotional peak response and begins to create in an intuitive, yet emotionally calculated and precise way.
In this project, Quarente-sept, cinq, Bellity chose to base her artistic exploration on digital materials, seeking to develop a more accurate practice than the intuitive approach to the magnetic medium. Both works included in the project make use of soundscape recordings made with a modular synthesizer with Max/MSP software, played over a quadraphonic system (4 speakers). The work processes are expressed in the way materials are arranged over the timeline, creating pieces that are grounded in silence and tension. The main focus of this work is the composition, the way in which the material is placed. The pieces were written with a sense of “jumping off a cliff and surviving,” the random placement of materials becoming gradually precise.
