Hala Natsheh:
The photographs I create express the significance of childhood memories. I incorporate into them Palestinian plants, such as cacti, almond, sage, rose and lemon. The photos in our family album were taken by my mother. My father taught her how to take photos, and she documented our family life and wrote various details and dates on the backs of the printed photographs.
My graduation project revives this golden album using my doctored images, which add my voice to that of my mother’s. This year I took photographs using a scanner, a technique that allowed me to work in layers, putting additional materials of my choice over my mother’s photos. Some fit into the original image, and some covered parts of it.
Some of our childhood memories are erased to some extent, and as time goes by real life begins. The golden album, my childhood album, is the most beautiful memory of my life.
I would like to thank my mother, who has supported me in every aspect of my life, and to my father.
