Or Aloni:

Ostracon
New Music  |  Performance

Engaged primarily in composing music for vocal ensembles, Or Aloni is a musician whose work explores the human voice as a democratic musical medium, one that is accessible to everyone. He is driven by the desire to find innovation and creativity in what is readily available, and by a childlike love and enduring enthusiasm for people’s voices.

Ostracon is a song cycle for seven singers based on texts by poet Avot Yeshurun. These are pieces about breaking and mending, divergence and convergence, scattering and consolidation, music born out of fragments of words. The choir sounds at times as a single body, a monster with multiple heads and mouths, and at times as a group of distinct individuals, dazed and lost, the encounter between whom creates the music of chance.

This work was composed in response to the doubt, loss, and instability that are all-pervasive at this time of conflict and strife. Through the musical movement between divergence and unification, this piece seeks to give a platform to what is broken and unraveled, searching for the music of what is uncertain and unstable.

The ensemble will perform with Or’s project on July 14-15 at 19:30 PM at the Salesian Sisters Pilgrims’ Home, Haayin Het 18, and on July 16 at 20:00 PM, Panther Hall, Beit Canada, Shivtei Israel 22 st.

Ensemble members: Or Aloni, Adi Orion, Ido Zohar, Yuval Itzhaki, Tomer Naftali, Noya Fox, Shelly Reizis
