When I was five years old, I ran away from home and wandered through the streets of Jerusalem. This memory eventually turned into a sensation I’ve longed to relive again and again – the feeling of freedom of a solitary figure who sets out on a journey into the wide world, without no parents to tell me what to do, and with the trust that I can make it on my own. Maybe, deep inside, I was hoping to win my parents’ attention. I imagined myself returning home to find police cars lined up in front of the house. But when I came back, I realized no one even noticed I was gone.
This installation is a homage to a brave boy who grew up to be a shy man. A boy-man who would like to draw attention and stand out, just as much as he longs to disappear or blend in. A boy who grew and matured alongside the acceleration of digital media; a generation whos’ native landscape was shaped by replicated pixels, and came-of-age in the technological ghetto. Using actions such as wandering and scanning, both digitally and physically, I search for this far away, singular, hollow place.
